Hotels in Bhutan
As tourists, you are expected to be accommodated only in Department of Tourism (DoT) approved hotels. All DoT-approved tourist hotels in Bhutan offer clean and comfortable accommodation. All these hotels have electricity, telephone connection, individual bathrooms and running hot water.
In
most parts of Bhutan, you'll
discover hotels that
are memorable for their individuality and in
convenient locations on the main travelling routes and
valleys in Bhutan. Most of these hotels are family owned and run. Hosts
are welcoming and can be interesting source
of local cultural insights and information. Few of the larger hotels in Thimphu and Paro offer fairly high quality accommodation. Generally, as you move further into the country from west to east, hotel rooms become basic and rudimentary. Hotel rooms have wooden panelled floor with decorations of Bhutanese motifs.
There is no central heating in most hotels in Bhutan. (Well, the new hotel in Paro have Swedish central heating system installed.) Hotels rooms are provided with electric heaters each, while electric water heaters are installed in your bathrooms. In Bumthang valley, hotels rooms have wooden heaters called Bukhari to heat the room.
